so marketing plans are top of mind. \u00a0As the COVID-19 crisis continues, in-person trade shows and marketing opportunities fall to the wayside. \u00a0In this DRONELIFE Minute Survey, we asked what drone companies are doing instead to keep their brands in view.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">There are a lot of very\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dronelife.com\/2020\/05\/08\/droneii-add-your-voice-to-the-2020-drone-industry-barometer\/\">significant drone business surveys<\/a>, and a lot of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dronelife.com\/2017\/03\/23\/faa-aerospace-forecast-drones-whats-changed-since-last-year\/\">very official forecasts<\/a>\u00a0for the drone industry. \u00a0The DRONELIFE Minute Survey makes no claim to be either \u2013 it\u2019s a way for DRONELIFE to share some of the prevailing buzz that comes our way from readers on a variety of subjects, and for us to track changes over time on topics that we feel would be of interest to our readers and the industry.\u00a0<\/span>Recent surveys included\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dronelife.com\/2020\/05\/25\/dronelife-survey-pricing-drone-services\/\">pricing<\/a>\u00a0in the commercial drone space and the effect of the\u00a0coronavirus on business\u00a0at a point in time.<\/p>\n<p>We polled our readers with the following question:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Has the coronavirus and the limits on face to face events changed the way that you are doing marketing of your commercial drone product or service?\u00a0 \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We gave the following four options, and let people know that answers were anonymous:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>No, we are word of mouth.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Status quo for now.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Yes, shift to digital.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Not sure what we will do.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We ran the survey several times of the past two weeks and consolidated the responses.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75912\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75912\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dronelife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/bar-graph-dronelife-marketing-survey.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-75912 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dronelife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/bar-graph-dronelife-marketing-survey.png\" alt=\"DroneLife Survey Commercial Drone Marketing\" width=\"480\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dronelife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/bar-graph-dronelife-marketing-survey.png 480w, https:\/\/dronelife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/bar-graph-dronelife-marketing-survey-300x181.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75912\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DroneLife Survey Commercial Drone Marketing<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Here is what our readers told us:<\/p>\n<p>No, we are word of mouth.\u00a0 14%<br \/>\nStatus quo for now.\u00a0 14%<br \/>\nYes, shift to digital.\u00a0 43%<br \/>\nNot sure what we will do.\u00a0 29%<\/p>\n<p>In looking at the number the following things become clear:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Almost 3 in 10 respondents felt that because they either did little advertising \/ promotion to start with or were happy with what they were doing, they will not make any changes to their marketing mix;<\/li>\n<li>Better than 4 in 10 responses felt that they needed to or already had made a change: and that they would shift to digital marketing from other forms of advertising or promotions;<\/li>\n<li>Almost 3 in 10 told us that they were unsure about what they should do.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Marketing is unique to every business, but a shift in approach has been recently documented in pieces like this one, by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/bernardmarr\/2020\/03\/20\/why-companies-turn-to-digital-marketing-to-survive-covid-19\/#25b90c4f2425\">Forbes<\/a>\u00a0titled, &#8220;<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Why Companies Turn To Digital Marketing To Survive COVID-19&#8243;. \u00a0<\/span>Most marketing experts suggest 7% to 8% of your gross revenue should be spent on marketing and 50% or more of that marketing budget should be dedicated to digital marketing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here at DRONELIFE, we make a living providing marketing opportunities and brand awareness for drone companies &#8211;
